Theresa Binda
My name is ~ Theresa Binda. My spirit name is ‘Muckaday Nigiig, waabshki nigiig assaywok ~ Black Otter, White Otter Spirit Woman. I am of the Deer Clan and I live in Garden River, ON, and am a member of Garden River First Nation (Kitigonzibi) and also a part of Michipicoten First Nation. I am a mother of 4 sons, and I am a lead singer of a women’s Hand drum group called the ‘Healing Lodge Singers’. We have been drumming and singing for over 20 years in local and surrounding communities for the Healing of our people and all people. I have gone into the elementary schools to teach the young girls about drumming. I also have been teaching at Algoma University in the Social Work Department. The classes I teach are in helping relations, namely concepts of wellness in First Nations communities. I have been asked to do opening and closing at many events either in person or on Zoom. I am very honoured to do this work and feel spiritually connected. Miigwetch!
